release 01.01.10

Earlier  this week  a select group of individuals were summoned together  to preview and discuss the upcoming EP release  “vibrations” from Lexington Artist/Producer/songwriter/drummer, Nemo aka Prince Harry.  As a fan of all music, and a self proclaimed staple in the lexington music community, I was honored  to be included in the listening party. Over these next couple of weeks and through out the first part  2010 you will be seeing alot  “vibrations”  not only  in our local music scene but i predict that this release along with the  release of the Shiesty Khrist and Devine Carama OMG“  album, that 2010 is gonna be a banner  year for lexington hip hop. I feel both of these releases could really help shine the national spotlight of Kentucky Music.

Lets delve into vibrations for a moment.  the intro starts out and i can immediatly  tell that the growth from his last release “elevator music” is  unbelievable.  track displays  several layers of sound along with a really dope spoken sample that sets the mood for the entire release ( similar to the feel you get from Lushlife “Cassette City” intro). Nemo basically displays a wide array lyrical skill, with a burst of syllabic wordplay that would of made Big Pun smile. second track entitled Definition of Cool has a beat soo crazy that J Dilla would co-sign it.  the Next three tracks   have sucess written all over them.  the first of which  Ms big city could easily wind up on commerical radio, and it doesnt  hamper Nemo’s artistic integrity in the process.  Shooter is quite possibly  my favorite  track on this release   I could tell by  Nemo’s  antics while this song was playing that it really pushed him  musically and the result is quite possibly the most creative piece of hip hop music ever to come from a lexington artist, at least since Cunninlynguists APOS.  Next on the menu, Elevator Music remix feature  Mums FP, Darnell Levine, and Colombus Emcee L.e. (fortheuncool) and is an amazing piece of work. There is no reason why  this song shouldn’t appear on blogs like www.Okayplayer.com or  www.2dopeboyz.com  this  should calm all the doubter of our local music scene.  Lifes Journey has heavy drums  and a touch personal reflection in the lyrics and solid piece of work, that thanks to kanye west, is now possible to have on a hip hop release.  the closing track So Funkin Dangerous is as close to filler as your going ot get on this release, yet it is by no means  a filler track  Nemo’s flow really goes in on this. his delievery is kinda miliant and by this time in the album  you as a listener have gotten so use to his musicality that a straight up rap song almost seems unimpressive.  however this track also  plays as the outro  and  Nemo has a strong team of musican backing him with that I have to give a shout to Clutch Porter whose touch can be  heard and felt throughout the entire release.

Overall   this release  is destined to go into the hall of fame  of Kentucky releases and I hope that i ganrers the national attention that not only Nemo  but  for Kentucky as a whole.
